Grocery Service Options for Busy People

Grocery Delivery

In a world where convenience is king, it’s only natural for services that deliver, pack, and ship you groceries would emerge.  Big chain grocers are starting to take orders online for all your groceries, and have them ready for pickup.  Other companies are shipping you entire meals that you prepare fresh in your house.  It’s an exciting time to either be too lazy or busy to go to the store.  Generally there is going to be an up charge on these services, so you have to ask yourself if it’s worth it to have that convenience.

Keep in mind most all of these services are regional, even with big box stores, so you will have to look around to see which ones provide service in your area!

Amazon Fresh Grocery Delivery

What could be better than groceries shipped directly to your doorstep?  Amazon is now offering groceries shipped directly for a small fee (I think it was $5.00).  The first few are free as well.  This includes cold items such as milk and cheese, with a 2 hour delivery window.  I have used the services about 10 times, and it I would definitely recommend it.

Walmart Call Ahead packaging

Not sure where everything is in the store?  Want to shave off some time of your grocery run?  Walmart is now offering online ordering for your groceries.  If you are at your desk and have a minute, go online and order your weekly supplies, they will be waiting for you to pickup.  No service charges are applied.  Make sure you plan for the pickup window which will vary per store and volume.

Local Co-Op

Want to get locally grown milk, cheese, meats etc?  Local co-op’s offer you the ability to confirm you are buying antibiotic and hormone free products, as well as supporting your local farmers.  Many of these co-ops will deliver your weekly supplies to your house.  This makes it easy to not only save trips to the store, but also ensure you are getting a super healthy product.  It also helps to take the guesswork out of shopping.  You eat whatever’s in the bag!!

Hello Fresh

My wife and I ordered 5 meals off of a Groupon for this site, and the food was excellent. It ended up being about $10 per meal, but that was with the discount.  They will deliver you everything you need to make the meal fresh.  They provide the recipe and proportion all your spices, etc.  It’s a great way to learn how to cook, and for those proficient chefs, it is also a nice way to expand your skillset.
